Japanese beetles are yet another garden pest that can cause serious problems to your plants. Once a plant start dying because of the beetles, more and more start feeding on the dying plant killing it. If you are trying to grow plants in your garden, this is a big problem. Getting rid of these types of beetles can be good for the long term health of the plants that you are trying to grow.
If you currently have plants that are dying and decayed from the beetles or other reasons, get rid of the plant. If you don’t, it will only attract more. If you don’t want to kill your plant, you can dig it up and remove it to another area of your yard. That way if it does continue to attract other insect pests, they won’t find the rest of your garden.
Attract birds to the yard as they will feed on these beetles and other garden pests. Put out bird feeders and bird baths. It will take a few weeks for birds to make your yard part of their routines, but eventually they will start controlling your pest issues for you.
Plant garlic in your garden as this can deter Japanese beetles from being around. You could put garlic into a container to grow and place this container near plants that you are trying to repel pests. This way you have the option of moving the garlic around your garden.
Put out yellow containers filled with water a few drops of dish soap added. The beetles will be attracted to this and get stuck in the solution.
In the season before you plant, spread Milky Spore over the soil. When the Japanese beetles are grubs, they will feed on the milky spore and this will kill them off before they can become too much of a problem. This is the best way to prevent beetle problems in the garden, but only will work before it becomes a pest problem.
